sound mentorship

We are all “sound beings,” literally made of vibration.

When we learn to harness the power of sound, we empower ourselves with tools that nourish our wellbeing, elevate consciousness, and deepen our connection to ourselves and to others.

We become ‘sound’ in mind and body, finely tuned instruments resonating in harmony with our environment and with all beings.

Tailor-made for you based on your desires, intentions, and level of experience, Sound Mentorships take participants on their own personal journey into the healing power of sound. Mentorships can be done online, or as a combination of online and in-person sessions, for those in the Hudson Valley or NYC. Weaving together theory, history, and experiential learning, Sound Mentorships invite students to explore the world of sound with reverence and curiosity through listening, voice, and drone instruments, for the purpose of healing, connection, and personal transformation.

Students come away with a solid foundation for using therapeutic sound within their own lives and practice, an understanding of the theory and science behind sound healing, and a deeper connection to their original healing instrument, the voice, as well as to the subtleties of sound and deep listening. Students can opt to focus on one or more instruments of choice (such as Himalayan or crystal bowls, tuning forks, drum, or any other instrument) as part of the program.

All levels of experience are invited to apply. Mentorships can be foundational for students with little to no experience to sound work, or more advanced for those with some experience and/or training.

WHO is it for?

A Sound Mentorship is right for you if:

  • You’re curious about how sound affects you in your day-to-day life and want to know how to work with it as a healing modality for yourself.

  • You’ve experienced a sound bath and want to know how it works, and how you can one day facilitate sound experiences for others.

  • You have some foundational training/experience in sound work, but haven’t felt ready or confident to share the work with others.

  • You are already working with sound in some capacity and want to deepen your skills and relationship to sound and your instruments.

  • You’re interested in working with sound as a tool for accessing deeper states of meditation, relaxation, and wellbeing, and for personal inquiry and transformation.

  • You’re a yoga instructor, school teacher, bodyworker, healer, spiritual leader, or therapist interested in introducing sound elements into your work/practice.

  • You are self-motivated, and will commit to doing the home-play, readings, and practices between sessions.

  • The flexibility of an online program is convenient for your current situation.

HOW does the Sound Mentorship work?

Based on your needs, intentions, and level of experience (if any), I design a curriculum for you. Mentorships are usually 2 sessions per month for a minimum of four months, and up to a year. After each session, you receive “home-play” - practices, readings, journalling prompts, and audio and video content - to deepen your learning and inspire your own deep dives throughout the week. Central to the mentorship are exercises designed to attune you to your wells of intuition, and connect you with the wisdom of your inner voice. To culminate the program, you dream up and present a final project, based on your own unique interests. This can take the form of poetry, prose, video, recording, experiment, or any other form that emerges from your Mentorship journey. For students based in the NYC/Hudson Valley area, you will also have the opportunity to co-create a sound bath with me, to which you’re welcome to invite friends, family, and students/clients.

WHAT you receive as a Sound Mentorship student:

  • Online sessions or in-person sessions in the Hudson Valley

  • Email and text support throughout the duration of the mentorship

  • Willing ears: you may share a voice memo per day of any work/vocal practices/sounds you’re exploring, and you’ll receive feedback from me within one day

  • Weekly practices, reading assignments, and journalling prompts

  • Access to a wealth of video and audio recordings to guide you in your practice

  • Four audio and video sound baths created by me to use as an experiential and study tool

  • For those in NY/Hudson Valley area: A final sound bath co-created with me and attended by your friends/family/clients to celebrate the end of your Mentorship

 Testimonials

I was blown away by Jess’ deep knowledge and experience, paired with her belief in the power of the spontaneous, intuitive magic that must be part of sound practices. With her guidance, I have come to feel more confident and at ease in using, creating, and sharing offerings that are less rehearsed and more authentic. Also, thanks to Jess, I am regularly reminding myself to always slow down - something that is much needed in all aspects of my life!
— Miya Dunets, Kirtan singer and yoga teacher, Hong Kong
My biggest takeaways are that there is so much more to sound than I was aware of and the information in the books along with the information from Jessica were so helpful as I go down this path. The Mentorship changed my awareness to sounds in everyday life, heightened my ability to listen, connect deeper with how sounds make me feel and also made me more aware of my voice and the ways in which I can use toning for healing.
— Britt Gotlieb, meditation teacher, Boston
